  • “You are, in fact, a mashup of what you choose to let into your life. You are the sum of your influences.”
  • “Your job is to collect good ideas. The more good ideas you collect, the more you can choose from to be influenced by.”
  • “If you’re not into the world you live in, you can build your own world around you.”
  • “All you need is a little space and a little time—a place to work, and some time to do it; a little self-imposed solitude and temporary captivity.”
  • “Travel makes the world look new.”

Steal Like an Artist is one of my favorite non-fiction books of all time. It’s inspirational, fun/easy to digest, and beautifully designed. Its 10 short chapters are filled with advice including “Don’t Wait Until You Know Who You Are to Get Started”, “Side Projects and Hobbies are Important”, and “Be Boring”. If you need a creative pick-me-up or a reminder to keep doing the work, this is the book for you. As Austin Kleon so brilliantly says, “Take time to mess around. Get Lost. Wander. You never know where it’s going to lead you.” For more on this book and author check out
