Experiment with Something New TODAY!

“Each day is a chance to experiment.”
Make Time by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky

While I’ve always known experimenting is important, I’ve never really opened my eyes to how big of an impact trying new things, even in the smallest of ways, can make on your lifeuntil now.

As I’ve been reading my current book, When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing by Daniel Pink, I’ve been thinking about timing more than ever. The science in this book explains that most people should do certain things at certain times of the day to be the most effective. But, it’s also essential that you are aware of how you work bestand the only way you can do that is through experimentation.

How do you know you don’t like waking up early unless you’ve tried?

How do you know you “can’t meditate” until you’ve used a few different apps?

How do you know your business idea isn’t good enough if you haven’t asked your closest friends?

The answer is simple: YOU CAN’T.

So, stop making excuses and start experimenting.

How can you experiment? In the smallest of ways each and every day of your life.

Not sure where to get started? Here are a few ideas:

  • Wake up 10 minutes earlier
  • Go to a gym class you’ve always been intimidated by
  • Drink a glass of water first thing when you wake up
  • Try a new set-up in your bullet journal
  • Get to the office 30 minutes earlier to avoid congestion and get ahead of your email
  • Take an online course on a topic that’s always interested you
  • Go to sleep 30 minutes earlier
  • Journal for 5 minutes when you first wake up (Pro Tip: put your journal on the sink before bed so you have to see it when you brush your teeth the next morning)
  • Take breaks at work to increase your productivity
  • Work out in the mornings instead of after work
  • Read a book in a genre you’ve never tried before
  • Try a new type of workout
  • Eat lunch an hour earlier (Last week I learned this small change made me more productive the second half of the day)

What are you waiting for? You never know what you could be missing out on unless you give it a try.

And, before you go, it’s important to remind you to not give up on whatever you are trying too soon. Stick with it for a least a week or 3 times in order to really give it a chance. You never know what the next day could bring. (Don’t believe me? I almost didn’t go back to my yoga studio a second time because I strongly disliked the first class I ever took there. But, I challenged myself and went backand took my first class with my favorite yoga instructor, Victoria.)

This week, I challenge you to comment below and tell me 1 thing you are going to experiment with over the next 7 days. Next Monday, I’ll check in to hear how your trial went! (As for me, I’ll be experimenting with taking more breaks at work this week.)

Good luck! And, as my favorite online yoga teacher, Adriene, says I hope you “find what feels good”.
